Bach and dance
As part of Eliot Church’s Joyful Noise Café
Friday, March 23, 2007
You are invited to a concert of music and dance in the Eliot Church Sanctuary, 474 Centre St., Newton, MA. (Phone: 617-244-3639). Colin Benn will play Bach’s Cello Suite #6 arranged for viola and the dancing will be performed by the Kathy Hassinger Dance Company. The evening will start at 7:30pm. Free will donations at the door and free food after the performance.
The dance and music explore the idea of a sacred place as an open space, open to the movements of the spirit. The prelude is a processional, driven by the joy of entering a sacred space. The Allemande is a prayer. inspired by Tibetan prayer flags. The Courante is a greeting and gathering, and the Sarabande, a confession. The Gavotte and Gigue build to a finish that conveys the freedom of grace and acceptance of ourselves as human and hopeful.
The evening is dedicated to the beauty and openness of Eliot’s architecture in the hope that this space will engender the same in ourselves.
